SSC Well Represented at Alberta Men’s Curling Championship
(February 1, 2010)

The Saville Sports Centre (SSC) will be well represented at the Alberta Men’s Curling Championship, which gets underway this week in Olds. In fact, 4 of the 12 teams in this year’s event hail from the SSC, and each has a chance to do some serious damage.

The #1 seed this year is the legendary team of Randy Ferbey, David Nedohin, Scott Pfeifer, and Marcel Rocque. The Ferbey Four, who may just be in their last season together, are looking for their sixth provincial title this decade.

Kevin Koe’s team of Blake MacDonald, Carter Rycroft, and Nolan Thiessen has been given the #2 seed. They are coming off an excellent performance at the recent Canadian Curling Trials, and have a very legitimate chance to win.

The #3 seed is Ted Appelman’s young team of Tom Appelman, Brandon Klassen, and Brendan Melnyk. They have had a solid season on the World Curling Tour, and may just be ready to break through this week.

Rounding out the SSC entries is the # 7 seed of Wade White and his team of Kevin Tym, Brian McPherson, and George White. This is their second provincial appearance in last three years, and they should not be taken lightly.

The most notable absence in this year’s event is the SSC team of Kevin Martin, John Morris, Marc Kennedy, and Ben Hebert, who have won the last three Alberta Men’s Titles. Team Martin made the difficult decision to opt out the Brier play-downs this season to focus on the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Even without them though, the SSC has an excellent chance to lay claim to yet another Alberta Men’s Championship. Good luck to all SSC teams, we know you’ll do us proud!
